What happened to Walter?

He did a Covenant with David. They both share the Walter body.

I think he just killed Walter, I don't really see why he would make another David to continue his experiments on the Engineer homeworld, where the experiments are considered to be what he calls failures, he has his successes aboard the Covenant.

We see David reaching for a knife so I think he stabbed Walter to a milky death off-screen.

its is something left open to debate thats for sure... But RS did confirm that David killed Walter and took his place and Cut his Hand Off to pass as Walter.

Is Walter 100% Dead? Who knows... Walter can repair himself but this maybe limited to Minor Repairs.

As for David.. we have to ask is he going to play a One Handed Android in the next movie?

And would a Colony Mission with the intention of setting up a New World and never returning to our Solar System, really take just ONE Synthetic without no Spare Parts?

So i think David will Re-build himself better.

What does it take to destroy and android? We saw that David was still viable even after His head was torn off by the Engineer on LV-223.    Walter seemed to have the upperhand in the fight against David.   He also had regeneration capabilities.   It's quite possible that David damaged Walter enough just so he could assume his place on the Covenant.   Walter lives!

Walter may live but i am not sure they would bring him back though....

A more Logical and Shoe-horned way would be that David uses Daniels for Face Huger Number 1....

David then manages to gain control of the ship to basically do as he commands, and then he finds some Walter Parts...

He Then Builds himself a Walter, and then Uploads his own Soul into Walter, with Technology on the ship...

David has a NEW Body... he has a Improved Body.

Walter Models are HOWEVER.... somewhat Synthetic Constructs like Elden from the Fire and Stone Comics.

So ultimately this Walter be it David creates to serve him, or David transfers his Soul to... can be infected by a Face Huger and this gives us the Bio-Mechanical Xenomorph

Unfortunately with most issues in the film the most interesting things happen off camera.  David either talked Walt into giving up, or David won and substantially wounded Walt.  Either way it's a poorly written script.  Let me ask the common folk, if you sent an AI on a trip to protect humans, what would you program him with?  Hand to hand, check.  Medical, check.  Engineering, check and so on.  Why not?  So with the fight, Walt was on top.  In that situation you don't listen to your opponent talk.  You ruin his (it's) eyes then break it's neck.

@cryofodder I'm with you! Walter was just incapacitated long enough for David to escape. David intimates as much in the novelisation, saying 'David' is not happy and will be on his way... Makes me wonder what info Alan Dean Foster had access to in order to write the book...

David made Walter stop punching his face when he said to him he should choose a side.

This was in reality just a clever distraction which gave David enough time to grab a knife before Walter continued punching him.

He probably stabbed him into a vital/critical sub-system, which may not be the head but another part of the android body which has a weak spot.

As we know the alien-humanoid-androids post/at Nostromo timeline are a threat even without a head attached.

All he would have needed to do was stab Walter in the neck again to incapacitate him. He didn't need to kill him to escape.

Not necessarily... He doesn't quite have the ability to anticipate such unpredictability. Maybe he simply waited for Walter to hit him again, then moved at the same time...

Love Walter. Breath of fresh air in a horror universe.

I'd keep him alive. As I suggested: his head is in a sack(severed by David) at the bottom of a well. How he escapes is a good story.

What happened to the Giant Engineers mother ship? 

I suppose he could have taken Walter's head off completely, judging by the fact that a Synthetic can survive such an attack.

I didn't consider the big docking ship... Hmmm... It must have a dock of its own somewhere...

David overpowered Walter and took over his body. he transported his soul to Walter and fled with him. and left his old body or duplicated that there are two David's and Walter's software has replaced his or simply turned it off. he had the same wounds on his face as Walter and a severed hand. he had to somehow take over his body and everyone on the ship thought it was Walter. took Walter's body because it was perfected. I wonder what about David who was on the planet 4. turned off or there will be two of them and they will create stories together.

Ridley Scott seemed to imply that David had killed Walter and taken his Clothes and then Cut his Hand Off...

I will add though that i expect that David would Transfer Himself into a Walter Body on the Covenant (surely they have Spare Parts) or at Least we see David would be able to attach a Walter Hand to his own Body.

It is likely that Walters Body is on Planet 4 and that THIS is the way the Engineers would Discover where the Covenant Ship is heading.

But we cant 100% Rule out that David is on Planet 4 and we have a Walter with Davids Soul on the Covenant, we then in effect have TWO Davids ;)

Walter stopped escape from David's lab on planet 4 and propably change him mind and took David thinking. they came back took the facehugger Eggs and escape. Look at movirle he don't run away but after one minute. He stay, turned to back, thinking. And runing from Building after minute and after Daniels turn on navigation lamp. Why he used David's code to open Hall with colonists? He thinking that he became David ? Where he gone? To Origae 6 like he said by radio? He said now him code. The Convenant ship became David ship. And ship have to be programmed to David too and system knew David's code. At the end part od movie, Mother of ship have inspection. Walter can change something in system. And how alien came to ship when Daniels killed him by excavator arm? We see, that alien borned from woman, and she staying all time on mothers ship. So and how she was impregnated by facehugger?

With David/Walter i think what we have is either

a) David steals Walters Clothes and Cuts himself etc to look like Walter, he looks back to either see if Walter has recovered to Chase him or he knows a Xenomorph is on its way.

b) David uploads himself into Walters Body, in which case the ONLY reason he would be looking back was because of the Xenomorph.

Regarding the CODES...

Well this is a Mystery of Sorts.... are all Ships secretly embedded with Secret CODES of David, had he had a Master Plan to Hack the Companies A.I before Prometheus so he can Control all their Systems?

Could MUTHUR just be Voice Activated and FOOLED by David and then David could PROGRAM some Secret Codes.

Could David be in Walters Body and then have Access to the CODES and then be able to PROGRAM his own CODES?

Could David had Accessed Walters A.I to gain his CODES?

All of these are Options.

Regarding the Xenomorph on the Covenant, this came from Sgt Lope;)

And at the end of Convenant, supposedly Walter, selected the same piece of Richard Wagner like David on opening movie when he 'born'. Did David gave to Walter him memories? 

Well RS had Suggested that it is DAVID on the Covenant, which could imply that he Changed Clothes and Cut his Face and Cut his Hand Off.

The other options remains that David had Uploaded/Transferred his A.I Memories/Soul into Walter.

Walter is only a Synthetic Shell.... his Programing/A.I is Walter and so if this is Replaced with Davids A.I then in effect i guess that SHELL is now David.

Definitely no one can say. One half of the arguments for David. Another for Walter. This is a typical mystery box, intended only for speculation, not search for answers.

Maybe the third film will show, but so far it is impossible to say.

If it's David - why did he stop? Why does he look back? Why is there an expression of uncertainty and doubt on his face? Just like: "Did I make the right choice? Did I do the right thing?" Why does he have exactly the same scar as Walter? The answer can be found in the novelization from Alan Dean Foster.

Well its something that they can SHOW us either way...

The David Transfers his Soul to WALTER Plot would allow us to get past some LOOP HOLES..

This would mean that we have a David on Planet 4 which would give a Reason for HOW the Engineers could Determine where the other David is OFF TOO..

But then IF both Davids are on the Same Page, then WHY would he give up where the other David is going?

It could be Interesting because as David is Sentient, and may think that PASSING his Soul on to another Better Body is a way for him to be Enhanced.... would the OLD Version of him still have a FEAR of being Terminated..

You could imagine after the Soul Transfer of Sorts.... you see David look at Walter and go "My Brother! that New Accent Suits you.... together we can RULE the Galaxy"  Then the Walter/David would then DISABLE the other David.

(My Prologue for my Alien Covenant Sequel idea was a bit similar but the Soul Transfer takes place on the Covenant Ship with a Spare Walter built from parts).

For he knows that as WALTER he could FOOL the Crew of the Covenant to reach his Objective and that he knows that HE is someone you cant TRUST and he simply cant TRUST another Version of himself in case the OLD version would ONE DAY... stab him in the BACK.

We still cant rule out if RS was thinking about Multiple Davids like more than 2... when he said the NEXT one would be about A.I

But any such PLOT would only distance Fans from the Prequels IMO

One way or another, there are few arguments in favor of David.

And I would not worry about how the engineers would know where the Covenant went. After all, it seems like the prequels don't like the word "how." I personally think that it would be better if Origae-6 will be their base, another colony, seeded world.

If they want to track the Covenant - let them use their technology, and not talk to androids. I am not against dialogue, but it will be another simplification, another primitive moment that could be played more interesting + show us (finally) technologies of engineers.

Besides Black Goo - what do we know about the technologies of engineers. If we forget about xenomorphs and focus on engineers, then it is their technology that is of the greatest interest, not society.

This, by the way, is one of the most disappointing moments of the prequels - not the “what”, but the “how”.

How engineers make their ships? How David create the xenomorph? Not what kind of world David/Walter will build, but how he will do it - that’s a good question!

The Technology of the Engineers is VERY interesting and prior to Alien Covenant i am sure MOST of the Fans would have Expected that when we SEE the Engineers then we would see more about their Technology and while we WONDER and WAIT i am sure many of us are THINKING about a Good Splash of HR Giger Aesthetic ;)

Also Second to that... WHAT other Horrific Creations had they Created and what Horrific Tale had led to their Kind of Experiments.

As far as WALTER... again yes if we had David simply STEAL his Clothes, then we would have to Figure Out exactly HOW would he be able to Communicate with them?

David never gave any Engineer Lessons... only FLUTE!

Maybe Walter will Play the Juggernaught Flute to make it POINT to Origae-6 ha ha!

As you RIGHTLY pointed out when they want to take us somewhere in a Movie then they would PULL any RABBIT out of the HAT for a PLOT CONVENIENCE.... or give NO explanation at all (Eggs from ALIEN 3 anyone).

Walter has an AMD processor embedded somewhere in the head under the skin. this can be seen in the additional movie "meet Walter". is on YouTube. He should have his forehead cut out and I think it is impossible for David to go to Walter without a computer. after switching off and damaging Walter, you can see that when Walter woke up, he behaves differently. I think that his procesor run in safe mode or it got damaged. thinks alone. he hits David and beats him before he was calm and composed. but when he is hits David, he stop and wonder did he is doing well. Dave said him that nobody loves him like he. maybe he changed his mind. saw that the shutter and crew from Daniels fled without worrying about him. the mysterious thing is that when Daniels goes to the sleeping capsule, he asks Walter to help her build a hut by the lake. and Walter doesn't seem to know what's going on. but he remembered that the creature had bitten his hand and that saving human life was his duty. as if after closing the capsule because he became David.
