Alien: Earth and Alien: Romulus sequel news

Is the prequel series dead?

Hi everybody, long time lurker, but first time poster here! so basically my question to you guys is, what's the probability that we will get one final movie to wrap up the prequel series? I know that box office data has stated that covenant basically flopped for its run so far, and that makes me really nervous for the future. I liked Prometheus, and absolutely adored covenant, and would love to see an end to the David story ark, but the box office numbers genuinely have me worried. What's your guys take on it, will we get sequel to covenant, or is the aliens franchise going back on ice?

Welcome.

Sometimes I think we get too wrapped up in numbers although it is about $ at the end of the day for Fox. As long as it turns a profit it should continue as far as I can see.

If we do get another sequel, I feel it will only be through studio intervention: opting for a different director, and relegating Scott to Executive Producer.

- Is the prequel series dead?

- No, it isn't.

Please, forgive me, but this is the stupidest topic question I've ever read.

I do think movies in general need to get out of the prequel business though. Hate all you want, but I sense a bit of laziness or lack of ideas of how to move forward. At least Bloomkamp made an attempt.

all the studios knew going in that Box Office results would be low this year, especially this month. Look at Guardians of The Galaxy2 as example.

NO, not dead, so don't worry.

IN SPACE THERE IS NO WARNING

It's not a stupid question. A:C reportedly showed an 80% drop in box office from last Friday. For all intents and purposes, it's dead or dying in the theaters. So it remains to be seen if Fox will consider continuing with the current direction (although I doubt they'll just abandon the franchise as a whole). If they're *smart*, they'll realize that Xenomorphs don't automatically equate to better audience response and give Scott more free reign to explore the mythology.

The franchise never really had mass appeal. As long as it turns a profit, it should continue. Besides Star Wars and Star Trek, sci fi movies/franchises in general don't seem to rake in the big bucks from what I can see.

I'm with you on this. I LOVED Covenant and would like to see more of this biological birth/creation theme.
The ending sequence with David vomiting up facehugger embryos was just astonishingly beautiful.

I wish I was rich so I could buy tons of merch and make the movie earn back its money, because I want, no... I NEED another Alien movie, at least to wrap things up.

Depends on the studio. I think it still needs to open in China or something. I don't know. It made more than it cost barely. Who knows what the studio will greenlight. It would be nice to see it wrapped up. If not then I guess we can look forward to alien 5 unless the studio just had enough with the franchise.

What really hurt Covenant was it went up against gotg2 then the pirates movie. There was a very small window for the movie. Perhaps a fall or winter release would of been better.

@SpellboundSynapses  I feel you. Lol

@Punchubby69  No, the prequels are not dead.

Be careful of everything you read around here. At some months before AC release, Ridley Scott was a god, and Covenant was going to be the best movie in art history. After AC release, it's the apocalypse, Ridley Scott is just a director, the theatres will have to pay people to watch it, the movie is horrible and every single member of this forum could have made a better one.

Money is obviously what actually counts for the studio, but the movie is making its way. There's a lot of factors related to this issue that we don't usually take into consideration, but the studio does. I also think that Prometheus was the "test" movie for Fox. If it went bad in $, no more movies. After the go ahead, I think at least one more movie after Covenant is already guaranteed.
