After reading the review I conclude that this quote, highlighted by the Magazine, is not referring to the visual appeal of the film. It alludes to the reviewer's opinion that some points being explained in the film, could have been better appreciated if given a visual treatment instead.
I don't think it is realistic to expect perfection- that is an individual opinion regardless of reviews. Personally though, I'm feelin' it so far!
Yeah, that quote isn't as harsh as it seems at all. The review's largely positive - and when you put it side by side with their Prometheus review there's a huge difference IMO, despite the similar score rating. I don't think the film is perfect by any means, but falling short of the masterpiece (and let's face it, expressing metaphors and subtext through visuals in the way they describe is masterpiece territory) it looks like Empire were hoping for is not a disappointment to me.
Maybe I was expecting lots of dreadful reactions that made me feel the way I did after they came in for Prometheus. I don't know. But I've been pretty stunned by how positive the majority are. I realise now that I honestly thought it was going to be terrible and that I'd be gutted again.
Seems that the feel of the movie as far as offering a tense return to the Franchise with Aliens and Horrors and Gores as well as a lot of the Detail as far as how wonderful the movie looks, are the positives.
The Negatives seem to be things that are causing a bit of a split of opinions... Without knowing the full details... i think my review may end up picking some bones too...
But i may be pleasantly surprised .
