Aliens: Steel Egg

Any of you guys read this book? Supposedly it's the "prequel" to "Alien" but it came out in 2007, and I think it is actually now out of print and hard to find, obviously pre-Prometheus. It's got some concepts that I DOUBT would be truly "Canon" in the new post-Prometheus RS/Fox ruled Alien world.

Still, it was an entertaining read. I have enjoyed the whole series of books that I previously ignored, I have to say. I was only interested in the movie novelizations previously.

What do you guys think about "Steel egg" and its concepts?

Ive been trying to find this novel! As you say, it's hard to find and not available as an e-book anywhere either (not that I can find).

Being an origins prequel it sounded interesting, Is it worth tracking down?

I am almost finished with mine. I would be willing to send it to anyone who wants it after me, assuming they will do the same and pass it to the next "alien-covenant.com" scifed friend...first come first serve!

@Iraptus yes, I'd say it's worth tracking down. The print is VERY small, lol, but otherwise i've enjoyed the read.

@Rick I think everything that WAS considered "canon" has all now been turned on its' ear given the new "rulebook" and repossession of the franchise by RS/Fox.

I read it again recently.  It's not bad, but it suffers a little in terms of it being pretty obvious who is going to live and who is going to die.  It also suffers from Prometheus disease in terms of a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between two locations without really progressing.  And there's one antagonist who is an appallingly cliched cartoon character.

On the plus side, there's some quite original and gruesome deaths, and the 'Steel Egg' is interesting.  The lagging action in the middle picks up nicely in the last quarter of the book.  Overall, not a bad read.

If the release schedule continues as it is currently, it should be re-released in Aliens Omnibus Volume 6 with Cauldron in June next year.
