Significance of the Symbol

I think its just to tie in with the Weyland-Yutani company at around the time of Alien, and the Egyptian Winged Sun (well similar) symbol is just maybe the Symbol of the company as far as its Crest on its Space Missions

It will be interesting to see how and if the company ties into any of the Winged Disc Mythos though.

Yesh it's just a continuity thing.  The Weyland Corp logo can be seen as a forerunner to the wing logo, which will eventually become the W and Y overlay in Aliens.
