Alien: Earth and Alien: Romulus sequel news

For this franchise, are you for or against a time travel element?

Time travel is interesting for some scifi but for a franchise this far into it, regardless of being prequels, I think it would be kind of weak to shoe horn a narrative just to make the story work. What do you think?

Agree, yet I see hints of it on threads.

Hate time travel. It's a stupid, lazy, dumb concept meant for lazy writers who can't figure out a way to make their time periods work with other writers' time periods.

Oh, I'm going to have to agree with the crowd here.

I know it's every where and i don't get where it came from.I'm not against time travel elsewhere(Star Trek,The Terminator etc.)but in Alien I am.

I'm highly against it. It would basically be like taking a crap on the franchise with no way to fix it.

I can't see ridley doing that anyway.

It was necessary for films like The Terminator series, but it is absolutely unnecessary for the Alien films imo.

Adding "the human origin" into the franchise was too much already imo.

I don't mind a good flick where time travel is central to the plot (as mentioned above, Terminator), but to use it outside of that I have to agree is in poor taste, lazy and insults the audience.

Time travel is a cheap plot tool.  Back To The Future? Good times, fun.  But ALIEN?  Really it is not needed at all.

There are a small number of films which I love about time travel. But I really, really hate the idea of any notion of introducing time travel into the Alien universe. Take it as a an absolutely humungous NO from me.

Nope in General because it opens a can or Worm (Holes) and Problems...

But YES.... only if its done well as a One off Event, so its a Tear in the Fabric of Space created by a Event that would be hard to replicate.

For Example a Star Going Super Nova... or some other Massive Massive Scale Explosion that causes a rift in space.

It can not be something that could be replicated and definitely something that is Engineer Tech....

So if it was say something like we did a Sci Fi movie where a Mission goes to Mars or where ever.... and on Earth  The Large Hadron Collider experiment has a massive failure and causes the Earth to be swallowed up in a Black Hole or some other Event that alters the Universe the Earth is in.

so it maybe only effects Earth and its Atmosphere and this Earth Mission from Mars returned to Earth with no detection of mission control and they then enter the Atmosphere and find they have arrived on Earth....

Only say Millions of years ago at the Age of the Dinosaurs or latter when there are Cave Men... etc

And there is no way the Humans on that Mars Mission Shuttle can ever get back to the future....

if its like this... Then yes it could work

I cant support time travel in this franchise. It is completely incongruous with any content ever created in this universe.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Regardless of how they tried to explain it away, I think I would have to disown anything RS did with the franchise post Alien if it does the time travel bit.

I would not be surprised if a Curve-ball was thrown...

The alternatives are..

1) The Space Jockey and Derelict are the result of David's experiments and have been on LV-426 for only up-to 28 years (assumes Paradise is LV-426) or certainly up to 18 years if its not LV-426 but David's Experiments Evolve and end up there.

2) David is merely Re-creating the experiments and the Derelict and Eggs are a Ancient Event.. which is what Ridley Scott had claimed for a long time.

But this could Change...

And the only way to Combine 1+2 would be Time Travel, but then i would be against that.. HOWEVER if they do go this route i hope its done in a similar way that i explained in the other post

Against, I don’t understand why it should be needed at all. It worked in Terminator but I can’t see what it would add to the franchise, and also it is not very interesting.

Like others have said there is a risk that it would mess up the time-line and make it all confusing, as if Prometheus wasn’t bad enough as far as explaining things (although most of it had to do with bad characters).

I am not a huge fan of adding the origin of humanity into the alien universe because I doubt that it could be answered in a satisfying way. Humans are important for the story (as we should have learned from the failure that Prometheus was) but they should tie humans into the story in a more interesting way IMO.

Big Dave: I hope that the SJ and the cargo isn’t a result of David’s experiments, that would be lame. There are better ways to deal with that, I would rather have it as something unknown rather than to have it being an accident that is tied to David. David re-doing the original experiment would be something that at least would be better although I don’t find that to be a very satisfying conclusion either.

Technically speaking, (forward) time travel may already be in play in the franchise if we conclude that a person's rate of aging is altered in cryostasis.

Another legit consideration is worm hole time adjustments slowing time as a matter of relativity.

That being said, backward time jumps should be left to flux capacitors.

No. No timetravel. If the writers can't piece it together, let the SJ just be old looking. Dallas just got the fosilized bit wrong. After all, he is just a spacetrucker, not a paleontologist, right?
