MemberOvomorphMar-02-2017 9:19 PMHi there,
Maybe I'm missing something here because I haven't been able to find this discussed anywhere else;
As I understand, in Alien, it is revealed when Ripley talks to Mother that Ash has been secretly ordered to bring back the Alien for analysis and examination, that the crew's lives are expendable.
This, in turn, means that Ash letting the organism on the ship, to which many members of the crew (who were also Ripley's friends) lost their lives, and all of the events of the movie, are because of the company's hidden agenda for the Nostromo to bring back the Alien. Crew expendable.
So... my question is, at the beginning of Aliens when Ripley awakes and comes into contact with the company, why does she not react extremely angrily or even violently toward them? Are they not the ones directly responsible for the deaths of a lot of her friends by making the crew expendable to bring their science project? On top of all that, her daughter has died while she was in hyper sleep, which was an event as a result of the whole events of the first movie, which the company is responsible for, they suspend her license, she has to see a therapist, they say they don't believe any of her claims about the alien when the company is the one who gave the command to return it..... and yet still she doesn't freak out or push back in any way whatsoever? Why so level headed Ripley? Then, she accepts another job to go BACK to fight the Alien from the same company that killed all her friends and ruined her whole life? Why? I don't understand why she doesn't hate the company.
Let me know if I'm missing something here,
Thanks!

MemberXenomorphMar-02-2017 10:59 PMShe probably does hate them - but what can she practically do? Burke and anyone else who currently works for the Company had nothing to do with SO937 or what happened in Alien. She can't sue them due to the inquest determining that she acted with questionable judgement.
All she can do is simply exist while she adjusts. Raging at the Company won't achieve anything.
