Assuming you can find a convenient cliff, you can fly under it without being distracted by an Alien bashing its way in, and the Alien doesn't simply move - yeah it could work.

I think the other option would be Strap in and  take this Drop Ship for a Test Drive.....  see how long the Xeno can hang on for.

I think we have to ask why was Daniels out there for?

Repair something? Then Alien came on board.

Or Alien was attached to the ship and Daniels is sent out to try and shoot it and get it off... looks likely this is what happened..

But why not send Walter?

We have to assume at this point there is maybe only Daniels and Tennessee ?  or maybe Walter is needed to be able to pull her back in?

There were 2 ships and it looked like Daniels may have dropped onto it. Makes me wonder where the ship was heading- surely not into space.

A gun turret a la' millenium falcon would have dispatched the big fella pretty quick. lol

This is the point where they probably get a false sense of security and go back to the Covenant. Somehow either that proto, or an as yet unborn one makes things awkward in space.

It does look like more fun than I can handle. 

I can not imagine the hopelessness, fear and panic that consume you being chased  you any one of these creatures....we are not equipped to withstand any hand to hand combat with an uber aggressive mammal/alien.
