Watching this again for like the billionth time, and this movie is still just a freaking work of art. If someone watched this movie for the very first time, right now, and you didn't tell them it was from 1979, it would STILL be amazing to them, and there's not much that would give it away.

I  know this has been rehashed a bazillion times, but it is almost impossible to express how near "perfect" this movie is/was.

The only thing I think would give it's age away are the dos prompt style interfaces.  Other than that you're right there isn't anything that would really give it away.  The worker technologies and the small tanks are still in use today.  The circuit boards in the PLC's are still in use on machines today.

I am ok with the older computer technology. It adds to the ovi he movie I think. This coming from a Star Trek OS and Twilight Zone fan though.

I love the old computer tech. It's one of my favorite things they brought to Alien Isolation.

I watched it again last night. The old style tech never really distracts from the film, and it doesn't look as dated as Aliens does. The acting is just amazing. The camera work and music is top shelf. It's hard to top in a lot of ways.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Prometheus made Alien look even better. Such a huge difference in quality.

I agree, the only thing that I think is dated is the computer technology that Ripley uses when she shall log into Mother and search for order 937. Computers have developed since then so it makes the computer seem old.

The characters and how they react in the situation that they are in is what make the movie work IMO.

Neomorph: I agree, the characters are better, the feeling of the environment seems darker (which I think is a better way to go with a movie like that because you can not really see what happens), and so on.

its a classic that will stand the test of time. very few movies can touch it. even today u get an adult whos seen all the modern horrors will SH*T themselves and cower. the old computers thing doesn't phase me even today. computers on modern expeditions to the space station etc still have systems that r years outdated due to the old 'tried and tested' rule. I just see the towing vessel as using very basic equipment to save money and the fact the nostromo maybe being quite an old vessel. stands up even today because it just looks basic to the average person I think

a lot of the art of film making is gone thanks to CGI. ridleys' CGI? scale models built and hand flown by members of the production crew and his way of shooting it. and its still is a work of art over 3 decades later and looks as real as any CGI. even the man in a suit alien is convincing today

Exactly, just look at the instrument panels on space shuttle FD and the even older Soyuz rockets.

The old technology didn't bother me in Alien.

yep, NASA for example don't tend to go the latest stuff. they want reliability for the job and tend to stick to what has worked for them in the past, if it aint broken, don't fix it
