It reminded me of the old cannon bombs.

But yes,it does look like Giger's egg silo concept. In Giger's mind,it was the egg silo that was producing the xeno eggs.

They would indeed re-use old concepts, and HR Giger has been borrowed from a number of times... including Prometheus.

Maybe these Spore Pods, can grow over time and then the Spores inside evolve into Eggs?

I think these spore pods ARE neomorph eggs. They eject the spore into the air, enter a mucus membrane and burst out of wherever they decide to later. The Neos gestation seems to take way less time than the Xenos.

I think it is Alien poop.  They step in it and poof!  Now we have a Neo infecting somebody

Now we have yet another tangential question of how/what/why/where/when do the spores get created?

Add that to: acid exposure (Fifield); black goo (Holloway); sex with an infectee (Shaw); facehug by squid (Engineer); cocoon (Alien deleted scene); and traditional facehug (franchise-wide), then you have more ways to go than I care to care about quite frankly.

Mr. Scott will now have to somehow explain why a 3-step lifecycle (egg-->facehugger-->alien) superceded a 2-step lifecycle (spore-->alien), which is evolutionarily counterintuitive. And that's leaving aside the Queen too!

The resemblance is pretty striking. They appear to have fallen off of something and not grown from the ground by the way they are stacked.

they may be an indigenous plant or fungus that uses spores already such as many species do here on earth and have become infected by the black goo which has altered them, hence theyr spores have the desired effect, I don't think ridley will be going down the queen road as that wasn't how he wanted it to happen as seen in the deleted scenes shown in his directors cut which was deleted simply due to the pace of the movie. the queen was camerons theory. I hope he doesn't go down the queen theory tho I did enjoy seeing the big bad bitch but the morphing concept is much more horrifying

@ali81 Ridley said in his special edition that he could see egg morphing and the queen being compatible in the life cycle. The big, blown up, fully lit Xeno mural even seems to depict egg morphing. If you look to the left and right of the central figure you'll see humanoids in fetal positions slowly melting into an egg shape.

I know the queen has to come from somewhere but what if like a bee hive they all have the potential to be a queen though when one has established itself as the queen it produces a pheromone that suppresses the others? I know ripley says in alien 3 she knows she is carrying a queen but this is ridleys take on the life cycle of the alien and not finchers. though he has stated hes not trashing alien 3 and AR, I think he is simply doing things the way he wouldv had he not left the franchise. pheromones would be complete plausible and answer lots of question as in how they hunt (again like bees a scout is sent out and once it finds something of interest returns and the rest follow due to a certain pheromone the scout produces) the queen makes sense when there are already eggs and there is lots of potential life forms such as in aliens but morphing would be the more logical means when there r no eggs and a single alien such as in the isolated environment of alien. both work and are compatible but remember ridleys idea was morphing, he didn't consider the queen till Cameron brought it into aliens and liked it so this way he has them both in future movies
