But seriously i think we have to remember the whole scene and others have been completely cut and changed to portray the Engineers in a much more sinister light.

Or they simply now dont give a hoot... they created us for Fun or well just because they can and just as a experiment...  we then started to act in ways that offends them.... so they decide to destroy us but this back fires causes to much hassle and so they abandon us...

But when we turn up, they go Postal.. as we was not meant to go turn up at the Engineers Home and wake him up.....

(But actually i think indeed its what David said that upset him).

My thought on it......

Maybe the Engineers were a creation like David was, same role near enough.... they was mistreated by their Hierarchy and so the Engineer had pity for David.

The Engineers also knows they rebelled against their own Hierarchy and was now the New Kings.... played a role in Evolution of Man and tried to assert rule over us, or used us also in some Agenda...

Then saw we began to Rebel.... the Engineers feared that Mankind could Rebel against the Engineers as they had against their creators.

Thats why they created the Bio-Weapons and attempted to destroy us.... this was a Fail....

Now these Humans have finally turned up, the Engineer knows the loss his race has suffered, and that if Mankind can get its hands on all the Engineers Technology they would be the Gods.

Seeing they (Mankind) have created David who can use Engineer Tech and Communicate with the Engineers, the Engineer sees David as a Human Tool that is a threat and a means that Mankind could then overthrow the Engineers. (what remains).

So he has pity for David, but knows that if Davids get out of control and Sentient then they would also pose a huge threat..

My thoughts:

The engineer ripped David's head off as a response that he didn't give a shit about what David said to him,like any movie villain would do,because he's evil.

DAVID: This man is here because he does not want to die.He believes you can give him more life.

ENGY: Ohhhhhh, thats why you humans are here.

*places his hand on David's head*

In the deleted scene,after Weyland finished talking to Engineer and pointed to David,the Engineer looked David, put his hand on David's head (was checking his creation) and then ripped his head again as a response because he didn't give a shit.

Either way,in comic books fire and stone and life and death the engineers are hostile towards humans and everything no matter what.
