Trippy Behind The Scenes ALIEN Documentary With H.R Giger!

MemberPraetorianJan-20-2016 12:48 PMHello folks!
Came across this behind the scenes documentary on You Tube. I can't recall seeing it before, if I have it must have been a long time ago, though I'm sure some of you will have!
Told from Giger's point-of-view it shows him designing and building the Alien, SJ, planetoid etc, and contains comments from Peter Voysey and Ridley Scott.
WARNING: Heartbreaking scenes of Giger and Voysey's work being demolished!
It's not the best quality, as it has obviously been transferred from video tape, but its really fascinating from an ALIEN/Giger-geek perspective!
Best quote: "The Cosmic Incubation has begun." Love that!!
ps the music is kinda trippy.....which adds to the surrealistic quality, funnily enough! XD

MemberNeomorphJan-21-2016 11:46 AMBrilliant! Thanx Lone, had not seen it before. The quality actually wasn't that bad concidering it was probably VHS haha, good old VHS! The first time i saw ALIEN was on VHS so it was very fitting.
Yes it was told from Giger's point of view using a narrator. That was needed because at that time he could hardly speak a word of English, but as he got older his English got alot better (as you know.)
And yes, seeing the demolition of his art, what he'd put so much time and love into, was heartbreaking to watch too!
Thanx again Lone.
The poster was good though!

Oh god yeah VHS and Betamax! Used to drive me crazy, because the aspect ratio was wrong and the edges of the frame were missing! My Dad and I were so happy when widescreen versions became available and you could view a movie as the director intended. XD

MemberDeaconJan-23-2016 12:39 PMWas a interesting Video... and yes Trippy Music.... some parts like the cult 70's low budget Horror/Thriller flicks and the rest.... well some 70's low budget Porno ;)
It was a shame to see the sets destroyed but thats what happens with large sets, the same happened with Prometheus... even though the movie could have lended to a sequel... any Large Sets usually destroyed as its too costly to store them. And the next movie to be shot at the same Studios usually want the stages free and clear so they can start shooting...

MemberFacehuggerMay-07-2016 12:31 PMThe Giger's Alien documentary was originally released in Japan on both VHS & Laserdisc in 1981. A lot of the footage in it was used for the Alien Quadrilogy/Anthology behind the scenes documentaries. It's rare to find a copy on either VHS or Laserdisc and can go for a pretty penny.
Got a copy of the documentary years ago on the Alien Appendix DVD's and I still watch it from time to time :)
