Expectations and Hopes for Prometheus 2

MemberDeaconAugust 04, 20153385 Views21 RepliesWith some News that Prometheus 2 could start to film early 2016 and having already had a Final Draft confirmed to had been ready by Ridley Scott in November 2014....
What are your expectations for the Sequel... and by that i mean not only expectations of what you think the movie will cover but also what you hope it would cover... and finally expectations as far as if you think it will deliver on the first movie and franchise... where some felt Prometheus was lacking...?
I will let others go first.. and i can then reply...
But i have high hopes.... but i did have for the first movie, which was not quite met with the expectation i had... but i think Ridley and Fox understand this and they would surely want to raise the bar and take on board any criticism from the first movie.

Sorry noticed a thread similar was made a while back...

Feel free to sugest if we and i should just merge it with the other Topic to Discus any expectations now that it seems things are moving along with the sequel.

Ridley Scott is my favourite living director. He is responsible for three of the greatest Science Fiction movies in cinema history. If people want to dismiss Prometheus from that list, that’s up to them. There is so much in Prometheus that is astounding, groundbreaking, and visionary which seems to be totally dismissed or overlooked.
People are already dissing The Martian for Christ's sake! I find it quite upsetting that I even feel the need to defend this remarkable director. There are some Hollywood directors who have endless amounts of money thrown at them, to make empty blockbusters, some of which might as well be CGI cartoons, yet, they don’t seem to suffer the vitriol and scrutiny that Ridley Scott is subjected to! Most of them have ripped-off Ridley's style and some of them have had the good grace to admit it!
@BigDave...apologies for going off topic, but I had to get that out of my system! :)
My main hope for the Prometheus sequel is that people give it a chance and actually go to see it. I wish it could make more money than freakin' Avatar and Titanic combined......yeah, yeah I know! I would also like to see even more darkness, as in Giger-verse. Dan O’Bannon, H.R Giger and Ridley Scott are the creators of the Alien Universe. Ridley is now expanding that universe, just give him the time to complete it.
Below is a short FILM 4 interview with Ridley Scott and some of the Prometheus cast. At the beginning Ridley states that the best way he can describe Prometheus is that “It’s fresh” It ends with him saying “It opens up the door….this film ends with you looking into what’s next”
"Let The Cosmic Incubation Begin" ~ H.R. Giger
I would like to see realism pumped back into it like alien the original - of course it would look the same as part 1 of prometheus just make it feel real this time! Mind controlled they all were I tell you by the demi god - make the story make sense again! I tells you :P !
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D
@LONE : Ridley Scott is my favorite director too. It's evidently the master of science fiction for me , but I appreciate everything he does. He is the latest and the best to make epic and historical movies (Kingdom Of Heaven, Duellists, Gladiator, 1492, Exodus ...). Also great when he directs more minors stories (Matchstick Men, Thelma & Louise) or gangster movie (American Gangster, The Counselor) and it's a visual genius, an incredible world creator. Have you seen Legend? This is brilliant.
This guy has a vision, has an eye.
Sometimes there are flaws in his movies, but he has a style, and that's the most important. Prometheus has a brutal editing, sometimes disappointing dialogues, secondary characters quite bad but Prometheus is a remarkable spectacle of science-fiction/adventure with great scenes, two good characters (Shaw and David), exceptional cinematography, fabulous sets and design art, great ideas, unique atmosphere , mysteries and a rich universe. This is already more than 98% of blockbusters released over the past decade.
For the Prometheus sequel, i just want Shaw,David and Ridley Scott leaving for the unknown. Even more mystery, questions, visceral scenes and beautiful world.
Forgive my english!!
Off Topic.. but.. i am one who respects Ridley Scott but he can make flaws in his movies little over sights but then a lot of movies have goofs and errors unless they rely heavy on CGI work etc.... But most of them are minor.... i think the main ones are Alien and Prometheus as in trying to create a X Scale and not pulling it off... i.e 26ft Space Jockey that actually 15ft, so for Prometheus they was 15ft Engineers who then due to limitations they decided to downscale to 10ft in suits... and again we clearly can see they are not 10ft but 7.5 feet tall.... thats just a little niggle.
I think Ridley is kind of Argogant he blows his own trumpet a lot... but to be sucsesful sometimes it takes convidence and also ability to stand up for what you want to do and show and not be bothered for those who dont like what you are doing.... so the attitude he has shows PASSION and COMMITMENT and most of all PRIDE when you have those 3 things then a few minor Personality Traits are nothing to worry about...
Ridley is consistant... so he has not made a few of these Big Block Busters... but you look at the budgets he has had to work with, and i feel a number of his movies are EPIC Especially Alien and Bladerunner each of those where sucsessful in their own rights.
Then we have Prometheus... Epic in its Scope and Potential but failed to not quite deliver, but then the potential is there Prometheus could be seen as the prologue or trailer to something massive (Big things have Small Beginings) the Scope for the ideas that he was trying to pull off could be HUGE
I do think Ridley Scott is underated a bit, he does not make many a poor movie, and i can see many Directors who i like such as Carpenter made a EPIC movie, made a few decent ones and some utter poop ones..
And what about the GOD JJ Abrahams who many see as the Best..... sorry i dont agree... i feel his Star Trek movies was a bit flawed and i hate what he had done with a few elements i now worry for Star Wars...... but i think he is over rated.... yes he has a few Good movies well ish!
We dont see Peter Jackson seen in the same light yet he can direct the $&%^ out of movies!

As far as Expectations....
I think the scope is massive and i am very open to them exploring a whole new Universe and the potential for this is well HUGE....
A lot depends on the Engineer Orgins and Agenda and exactly how much of a connection to the Xeno and those experiments on LV 223 was all about... this could be a small part mind, it could be a faction of Engineers stealing something they should not to create something they should not have and then being either upset with what they had done, or in that it never turned out the way they wanted too...
Then created something to either put a stop to it, or to create something new... like kids fed up of there Lego Building and knock it down to start something new.... or had they been naughty and wanted to cover their tracks by getting rid of the evidence for playing God? Or even was it a faction who had enough of their creators creation and wanted to get us to worship them and that failed so they decide to wipe us out and maybe there own creators?
Thus in the scale of the actual creators at the top of the chain... they could be located far far away, they may have no knowledge of our creation, they may have created hundreds if not thousands of races.... opening up a world as big as Star Wars or Star Trek... who is to say that Humans or close to Human Humanoids are not spread across the Galaxy at the hands of the Engineers... and their creators...
So maybe some distant creation of Mankind, and then a comming across and experimenting on something new to create something to then punish Mankind could both actually have VERY LITTLE to do with the SCOPE of what the Engineers and their Creators have created and have in store for the Galaxy.
What to Expect... this is very hard for me because of the massive potential its hard to really think what to expect...... as far as what i would want to see happen...
I would want some answers, but not spoon fed, i think they would need to cover any reasons for why we never hear about Engineers or LV 223 despite the wealth of Technology and Engineer Experiments and Treasures that LV 223 holds compared to the Derelict on LV 426... why bother with LV 426 and the Xeno when they can have more from LV 223.
I would like to see some incorporation and clues as to what becomes of Weyland Company now, and what part does Yutani play, i want to see some scenes that explore what these companies are about, why they are rivals and maybe some seeds that can lead us to maybe why the company merges at some point... again vaguely... it would be interesting to see evolution of the Androids... why they was so twitchy..
But then we come to Paradise and well this is where i just dont know what to want, as there is so much SCOPE!
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017
Going by Ridleys comments and what we have been shown in the Franchises and not by what i heard of that source.. even though they kind of add up....
Here is what i expect to see....
I think David and Shaw will end up at some place that has something to do with the Engineers, (remeber David is free to take Shaw any place) i think for sure they would find some Engineers but also something or someone else, but is that a being? a machine? both? is it a Race? a Handful or only a single Lifeform/Machine at the Top of the Hierarchy
I expect Shaw to be suprised by what she finds, and find something that not only backs up Holloways view, but also that maybe its also a case of some Engineers stealing the Tools to create Life as opposed to having the blessing to do so.
The Engineers are not God, we are just a experiment or creation for some purpose, and those who created the Engineers are also not some God like beings or force as in the traditional sense.... but are a sinsister Race maybe they are like Genetic Borgs i think they will have a Agenda that involves the Engineers that is truely shocking and not what Shaw came to expect when she wanted to find GOD or Godlike beings who created the Engineers.
With David carrying a Cargo of Bio Weapons, we have to wonder how would these beings on Paradise let them enter with such a Weapon... maybe they do not know what the ship carries? I expect that David will as he did with Holloway, use something as a test subject to create something NEW! He knows the Engineers are not Gods and Mortal after all... and maybe he is not to impressed with who created them and that with the Bio Weapons he has he can unlesh Hell on Paradise and proclaim himself to be a God...
Maybe David infects himself?
I cant see how this movie would end.... we have to ask if our Engineers and Creators are really that Nasty, and agreed with the plans to wipe us out, or even if they did not they would now certainly see us as a threat and especially after Davids antics... surely they would want to come to Earth to Destroy us... so i feel something has to happen to prevent them from doing so...
Unless something has already happend that prevents to a degree them doing that prior to David and Shaw turning up... but after David is finished maybe is in a even worse predicament?
A lot would then depend do they set this up for a 3rd movie that involves David and Shaw or do any of them die? Does a 3rd movie explore LV 223 and close the hole on any plot holes and incontinuity in relation to Alien franchise, with regards as to why chase the Xeno on LV 426 and not exploit LV 223 and if they exploit LV 223 then why bother with LV 426 and apear to know so little?
Or if a 3rd movie explores other worlds these Engineers and their creators had plaid a part in creating etc?
Ultimately i expect Ridley to maybe throw us a curveball something that would lead to a suprise or in a way we may not have thought about... i.e how Prometheus showed us the Space Jockey was more than some Giant Alien Being carrying a deadly Cargo for a unknown purpose.. to being a Race who genetically played a part in our creation as well as potentially other creations and who ultimately had a outpost that at some point they used to create horrific experiemnts they intended to test us us.. but it back fired.
I expect Ridley and Fox will take on board some criticism and push the boat out to make this movie stand out more than Prometheus did.
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017
What I expect from the sequel is that it keeps what made Prometheus a sci-fi masterpiece: the almost Lovecraftian sense of "cosmic horror" and wondrous dangerous mystery.
But I doubt it's gonna happen: most likely, they'll try to dumb it down with lots of action and explanatory dialogue in order to appease those who were pissed off by the vagaries of the first film.
Somehow, in some way, David ends up in the Space Jocky chair... infected. And the derelict on LV-426 is the result... and the Xenomorph we've come to know and love via ALIEN is a direct descendent of his lineage. Perhaps that explains the bio-mechanical appearance.
Born from The "Line of David"/An Anti-Messiah/The Crucified Xenomorph image/Ampule room/Prophecy... The sky is the limit.
@GustavoHR
I hope they had learnt from some mistakes and some critism etc... but ultimately do not completely give in and do a movie thats just another Spoon Fed Pop Corn fest... i think Alien 5 could provide that allowing for Prometheus 2 to get a bit more serious and provid more clues but again in vague ways... just hopefully not contradicting ones..
@spirit_light_speed
When i first saw the Prometheus Trailers and all Gossip etc and Clues before the movie came out, i also thought that it would be David that would lead to the Xeno... i thought that David would want to as Pinocchio he would want to be more Human and gain a Soul i thought he would gain such a thing and become more Mortal and get his reward.. but this costs him as he then gets infected with Shaws Baby Squid to then produce a Android/Organic Chest Buster and the First Xeno..... the only problem i had was timeframe because the Derelict looked like it had been there for thousands of years which Ridley had confirmed over and over even way before Prometheus.
So i kinda felt this idea would not work unless they used Time Travel... and we cant rule this out in future... but i hope this is not the case.... Ridley had gone on record and sticks with the Story that the Space Jockey was infected with his Cargo some few hundred years within the time the Engineers got nearly all wiped out some 2000 years ago or so.

Myself and others have said this before.....A BIGGER BUDGET...YOU LISTENING FOX....GIVE THE MAN MORE MONEY!!! and...a longer running time, Prometheus suffered from being cut down too severely. 3 hours plus please! :)
"Let The Cosmic Incubation Begin" ~ H.R. Giger
Well it was said that he asked Fox for $250M for Prometheus and to make it a R rated movie... Fox came back and have him half and that he had to make a movie less Gore and Violence related.
They (Fox) wanted to step away from a Xeno fest movie, and try something else... that would link Xeno DNA but concentrate on our Space Jockey (Engineers) but as far as their Race in general and their Agenda and Purpose and connection to Bio-Weapon Organisms and Experiments with their Bio-Weapon Cargo Ships the Juggernaught/Derelict rather than cover the story of the Space Jockey and his Cargo which happened thousands of years ago well so we was first told and how it also looked, but do they make a movie thats set thousands of years ago... and how would Humans play a part..
Well they in Spaights draft tried to link the Space Jockey event within the timeframe of just before Alien i.e late 22nd century i,e 2100 or abouts. But then thats not to say that the crashed Juggernaught in Spaights draft was the one in Alien as another could have crashed thousands of years before.. but as Ridley hinted the Sacrifical Scene did not have to be Earth.... the movie was set up to show us it was.. and likewise Spaights draft was set up to show us the Derelict event was a result of the end of his Alien Engineers movie...
I think how much Budget a Sequel would get was depending on how the reception for Prometheus went and its box office, Fox would not back Ridley $250M for his first movie, but their seemed the potential for a sequel and depending how well it did would determine if another was made and what Budget....
The source that informed me sugested that the new Budget is 50% more than Prometheus which i guess is fair as Prometheus did not get to be the hit they was hopping for and had received some Criticism so a extra $65M Budget than Prometheus had could be enough depending on the Scope of the movie and what it wishes to cover.

Well I hope for a good movie haha, but really I have a huge list of wants I think but the only thing on my mind right now is having the human characters knock it out of the park. I want the acting (which was on point in the first), writing (shaking a tiny bit), and directing of them (which was great of course) to al come together and allow the humans to drive ths story.
Iam excited for what otherworldy creatures we will meet in Prometheus 2, but I don't want to sit in the theater just waiting for the next monster scene. I want the humans to reeeaally keep me in it. Like I said, the acting was really good in Prometheus, but some of their actions and then the editing kind o fhindered the effectiveness of their acting and made a dent in my enjoyment of the film. So I just want the humans characters in the film to carry the story well (but balance is important, so the alien life forms must be good of course haha!)
Not a map, an invitation
Agreed some good points cuponator3000
@Lone
Nice list of requests... ;)
I think they should listen to the critics and also mainly the Fans on Here and similar sites and Alien Fans etc....
As Ulitmately Prometheus was pitched a bit to much as a open movie that had vague references to Alien Universe and the casual view may not have known it was a Alien movie for them it would have been a confusing movie and so i would be a hard push to sell to them a Part 2 and expect them to see it.., it would be oh a Part 2 to that movie we never understood... No Thanks.
Casual Sci Fi fans may had been able to see something beneath all that but some may wonder how does it connect to Alien and by staying away from Alien to explore something new what can be done to convince them to go and see a Part 2
Then we have the Alien Franchise... Fanbase some of these more Fanboys and other not, some may had been expecting a direct prequel or answers to the Space Jockey or at very least where these Eggs came from and connection to the Space Jockey and more of a Xeno Origins please! When Ridley and Fox wanted to explore the Engineers/Space Jockey more.
Ultimately this lot above that now leaves the bigest fanbase to attract to go see a second movie.. The Casual Fans and Casual Sci Fi fans would be harder to try and persaude...
SO FOX HAS TO
Try and fix some of the wrongs and give some more answers to please these guys while not trying to Spoon Feed or Show the Space Jockey actual Story but to cover some more details of connections... Lucky for Fox they can do this without being Spoon Fed Xeno fest as a Alien 5 could tackle connection between LV 426 the Engineers and Xeno.
Targeting the ALIEN FANS and PROMETHEUS Fans with a movie instead of trying to attract a wider Audience is what FOX must now do... do this and then rave reviews will come in and the Casual Sci Fi fan will go and watch a Part 2 if it is less Ambigious and answers some Questions and a few regarding the LV 223 outpost and Xeno Bio Weapons.... ONCE they Casual Sci Fi fan then goes and sees it and gives positive reviews then the wider Audience will go and see what all the fuss is about!
THIS IS WHAT FOX MUST TRY AND DO!
Give us some clues, to the ambiguity but we dont have to have a Spoon Fed Answers and then also expore more of the Engineers their creators and Shaws Answers.... and then we can close the door on he XENO and explore in a 3rd movie or even Spin Offs the Engineers and their hierarchy and Agenda and finally what other Races have they created in the vast Galaxy!
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017
Forgot Ridley Fans ;)
No need to worry about them as they would watch any movie that Ridley makes be that 50 Shades of Gray 3D or Muppets on Mars... lol
Not meant in a bad way but they would go see the movie to be curious as its a Ridley movie and go in with a open mind anyway... so what i am saying is many Ridley fans would see Prometheus 2 if it never explained nowt, never showed a single Xeno or anything like it.. or if it had Predators and Xenos all over it... they would go see it.
R.I.P Sox 01/01/2006 - 11/10/2017
On a more specific note, I would like to see female Engineers.
I mean, the whole Alien saga is immersed in female symbols. Its hero is female. Mothers, daughters. Birth, pregnancy.
Yes, yes - I want to see the mothers of the Engineers.
Wait a minute - they officially produced a toy of a character who didn't even show up in the movie? Why?
Nope
I think its just fan art sculpture
Not a figurine or such .
That's as far as iknow.
