MemberOvomorphNov-17-2014 12:35 AMHello everyone,
I wanted to know if anyone could determine whether the Engineers on LV-223 deteriorated or had deacon like chestbursters or turn into xenomorphs.
In the opening scene we see an engineer deteriorate from a substance that is probably the black liquid.
In another scene we see fifield and milburn looking at engineer corpses and saying it looks like something "exploded" from the inside.
Also the decapitated head seems to explode when released from the helmet.
This idea of deteriorating when in contact with the black substance makes sense since the engineers would want to run into thea mapule chambers in order to stay cool and not have their bodies explode.
Though this seems like the ideal assumption, we see in the control room of the juggernaut that the other three cryo chambers have holes in them.
After watching the furious gods documentary and examining the artbook, it seems that the corpes of the engineers in the cryo chamber seem to have had their chests bursted open.
Also the deapitated head that Shaw takes back to the ship seems to try and expand and enlargen like that of a xenomorph before exploding.
If anyone has any ideas please comment!
Thanks!

MemberOvomorphNov-17-2014 12:38 AMI also forgot to mention for the deterioration idea that Milburn picks up a snake like skin which could mean that the engineers deterioration resulted in the worms turning into hammerpedes do to contact with their black liquid mixed blood.

MemberXenomorphNov-17-2014 1:16 AMI have looked at it from every possible angle and i am of the opinion that it impossable to solve. this is the "new space jockey mystery" so to speak.
however it depends on the sequence in which events happened......
but how do you establish that ??
great question but i don think any one wil ever come with a complete coherent theory for what happened to the engineers.
1.) where did the facehuggers come from if the engineers were chestbursted ?? how do facehuggers open a door and go inside ? how do they know where to find the engineers in the temple ? how were they spawned ?? perhaps bob did it ?
2.) if engineers were infected WHERE did it occur ?? the only place you find open ampuleis is in the big head room ? then why run there ? the decapitated engineer was already infected ? or was he infected inside the ampule room ?? what was chasing them?
if bob was behind it ?? who knows ???

MemberDeaconNov-18-2014 2:51 PMYes its a very big mystery especially the WHY DID LAST ENGINEER SURVIVE and WHY ARE THE OTHER CRYO SLEEP PODS APPEAR TO BE CHEST BUSTED...
We cant be 100% sure on the reasons for this or indeed why and how, one thing we have not thought about that can not be ruled out is as follows...... do we 100% know the Juggernaught that they was on, had docked with the outpost before or after the outbreak?
We can assume after, but indeed there are many questions that are maybe down to a lack of thought in how to make a coherent plot that is to blame... Lindeloff does this often. Spaights draft is more coherent.
I will address the above some time, but we cant reach any bullet proof conclusion..
For the other Question posed.... i kind of can..

We see The Ghost Engineer Scene which shows a number of Engineers made it into the Big Head/Mural Room, apart from the one who sadly did not he collapsed before the Door shut and his head was cut clean off.
We see for some reason the head is in a great state of preservation , the Body outside on the other hand has the signs of the ones found piled up latter in the movie, notably the Tibia, Fibula area of lower leg and at shoulder there are holes in the Suit.
The Head in the Big Head room is well preserved so we have to assume why does this seem to have the head inside the Space Jockey Helmet intact? While the body well if its like the others seems they could be hollow?
If we go to the bodies piled up, how did they end up that way, was they dragged and piled up? Did some Engineers do that to them, if there was a infection would they risk doing so?
No this looks like a desperate attempt by them to all try and get beyond that Door, as if for instance the Human Crews Oxygen supply running out and there was no Oxygen in the air, and that Door lead to a Airlock that would saved them.. the Humans would be desperately trying to get to and into that room maybe banging on the Door for the others to open from the inside..
These Engineer Bodies have holes that seem to look like something exploded outwards, and some of the crew of Prometheus implied that (Key to remember is what they say as far as the Dialect is on purpose and holds many clues to the movie rather than visual ones).
These bodies have various holes in various places and some you can clearly see there is nothing inside the Suits at all they are empty.
The Door they was trying to get to leads to the same room as the one the others got through apart from the decapitated one who never made it in time, so this room is were they was heading to but why?
The Room has many more Urns containing the Black Goo, but we are shown that these Urns appear to be inactive the atmosphere and environment in that room is as such that these Urns are not activated and also for some reason what ever process happened to the Engineers body did not happen to the head.
We are show the Head is well preserved but it looked like it was in the process of change, as Shaw said there was signs of new cells being changed. This could hint that the Engineers DNA structure was changing, and we see signs to a degree of what happened to the Sacrificial Engineer occurring once they trick the head into being back into Life, the more they increase the amplitude on the device the faster the reaction. We see the head swell and black blood running from it, was it changing like Fifield? Doubt it because well why was the body half of the suit and other Engineers suits outside all seemed to be empty.
The only thing that fits the bill is what happened to the Sacrificial Engineer.
Holloway started to Change before Vickers Torched him and we see again some signs of what was happening to the Sacrificial Engineer, only on a slower less violet scale, both the Engineer and Holloway had consumed the Goo, funny enough Holloway only consumed the substance contained in the top half of the ampoule.
Lets now take a look at the Sacrificial Scene the Engineer consumes a fairly large amount of the substance and we see the onset of the substance is instant, as opposed to Holloways, could be due to the difference ins dosage consumed.
The Sacrificial Engineers body is being broken down molecule by molecule until it dissolves into a black molecules for the most part, this is some very violent chemical reaction.
If we look at other violent chemical reactions, such as putting a Mentos into Coke, this causes a violent reaction, the mintos causes the cokes carbon dioxide to bubble up fast and produces a far more violent fizzing effect that just shaking the bottle.. what happens is once this violent reaction occurs the resulting bubbles try to escape from the bottle by the fastest way possible, and it shoots out of the top.. but if you put a lid on in time the reaction occurs inside and once it builds up it takes the quickest and easiest route out and so by piercing the bottle you cause a explosion.
Another Chemical Violent reaction we can cause with a liquid in a bottle is Water and adding a Alkali Metal, such as Potassium , Lithium and Sodium this causes a violent reaction that again if it is kept inside a pressured container, say like a Bottle the reaction would eventually try and escape from the Bottle and usually explode...
Alkali Metal Reactions with Water
You will notice just as if you put Minto in a cup of water the reaction of adding Alkali Metal to Water is not as Violent as if the reaction is contained within a Bottle with nowhere for the reaction to escape.
Now if we look at the Sacrificial Engineers reaction and imagine what if he was wearing his Space Jockey Suit, is it not viable that the broken down Genetic Material that is left after the Reaction would try and escape and explode out of the Engineer Suit?
This is what i think happened to those Engineers, and they tried to get into the Sterile Environment of the Mural Room because this Room for some reason not only preserved Organic Material it also slowed down the reaction of the Goo or maybe even stopped it completely... Maybe this is why the Urns was never effected until the crew changed the Environment and Atmosphere.
As far as how they was infected, well it points to Orally, so maybe they was poisoned like Holloway was, but in a larger dose but not as large as the Sacrificial Engineer, i say that because we have to assume those Suits offer some protection and the crew of Prometheus did not get infected with the Goo even though they must have walked in it, and the Worms and Fifields face came into direct contact with the Substance so it must only effect you if it comes into contact with your actual Genetic Structure i.e Skin, or any part of your body.
Now surely the Space Jockey Suits would protect them from this, as they are more advanced and when we Primitive humans are messing with any chemical or disease that is deadly or potentially we wear protective clothing, and so the Engineers can’t be stupid enough to not do the same.
The movie hints at a outbreak, Janek goes further by suggesting these Engineers was making something they should not and it backfired on themselves, he uses a time that he and a comrade had to Nuke a Science Lab because some Scientists Spilt something that they could not let get out.
How is that relevant to LV 223, well surely the Engineers never split any but they could have done, but we have to assume a spillage would not infect them if they wearing their suits unless its a large amount and we see that the Goo when in contact with body, simply mutates the Organisms, and not breaks them down...
However a thing to remember here is Fifield and Hammerpedes was also infected by the Full contents of the Urns, the mixed up material, where as David infected Holloway Orally with contents from the Top... Maybe thats coincidence who knows, but the basic theme here is that the reaction of Holloway is more like the Engineer Head and Sacrificial Engineer than Fifield and Worms that became Hammerpedes.
So maybe a Spillage does not fit?
So what other connections then, well Sacrificial Engineer and Holloway Consumed the Substance, the Engineer knowingly, Holloway did not know and was poisoned.
Maybe we cant rule out the Engineers was poisoned in a similar way, by that somehow the Goo got into their Body somehow, surely it cant be inhaled due to the Mask? So maybe something they drink, or something they use that they inhale i.e the Canister like items that are attached to the back of the suits i.e like Divers Oxygen Bottle were contaminated, this would point to sabotage and maybe explain why one Engineer survived?
Who knows there are many parts of the puzzle that do not fit together in a way that is bullet proof, only one thing seems to be the case and that it is more likely our Engineers suffered a similar fate to the Sacrificial Engineer and Holloway by somehow being infected internally by the Goo.
