MemberOvomorphJanuary 31, 2014It is somewhat clear to me that Prometheus tells us a story about existence. But it tells it from the perspective of a Creator or Engineer.
"They engineered us" is key.
The "(what) they engineered us (for)" is the big question.
What do we know about these Engineers?
Are all of them Engineers or are only the ones we see at the start of the movie (not ignoring the ones in robes) Shaw theorizes that they were engineers, but engineers at the service of who?
We are not revealed where the sacrificial engineer comes from. We know that he didn't come alone and that he came in a Ship at least capable of FTL travel. The outpost in Reticuli at a first evaluation seem to be a terraforming structure that keeps working after 2000 years of zero maintenance. It makes sense to make a military research facility inside a terraforming complex in an isolated planet to do whatever experiment these engineers like to do, or NEED to do. The amount of time a machine works without maintenance speaks for the advancement and the quality of construction, how many years terraforming facility from Weiland Corp function whitout maintenance? In the other hand, if you are the boss of these engineers and in the conducting of experiments on creation of nanochemical weapons of mass destruction, do you stay still if no news are received from the outpost in 2000 years? I would dare to say that the pod-awaken-engineer is the last one to know what was really happening up there.
Are the same classes the engineers in robes, the sacrificial and the one in the pod? Note that te one in the pod have a biomech skin in almost all his body.
Maybe that skins is developed and adjusted to allow the engineers in the outpost to survive that atmosphere and it was not needed for the sacrificial engineer because of the more friendly atmosphere of earth. Maybe that skin is an biomech interface to interact whit the armor an the rest of their technologies. Maybe it is a military class tech to enhance their combat skills. Maybe is the result of hibridization with another species founded by their civilization mixed to gain some transhuman habilities. Maybe is all i've mentioned in the same engineer.
How much time passed since the seeding in earth to the event where all engineers in the outpost died? Would be correct to assume that these engineers are inmortal at least not mortal by means of natural causes or at least have a longevity measured in thousand of years? In that case would be correct to assume they manage time in thousands of years... Maybe a 35000 years experiment for them it is like a 35 days expermient to us.
Did they seeded earth because it was habitable? Did they terraformed earth to be habitable to then conduct the experiment? Did they sacrificed one of their own for a experiment or was in form of some ethical loop? maybe they thought that the sacrifice of one of their own justifies the mass killing in the future. They engineered us to their image... was it for the same reasons that we assasinate mices (Because of their 98% DNA compatibility and size and manageability) only better because we are 100% DNA compatibility? Were they expecting that some charactistic in the sacrificial engineer manifested in the subsecuent specimens? Whas the sacrificial engineer modified in this respect? I mean if any engineer can be sacrificed or has to have a peculiar characteristic to truly be a SEED? Maybe they were experimenting to find something hidden or encoded inside the bloodline DNA of the Sacrificial Engineer (Insert movie here)... Maybe they are "growing us" because they have a war o were at war and now seek vengeance on their rivals and want to know the effectiveness of this nano chemical of mass destruction when applied to a whole planet... Maybe they are not at war and only want to measure disemination distribution of the weapon to improve it...
Or maybe it was not an experiment. What if it was the last effort of a group in their society that thought their civilization was all wrong an decided to give themselves another oportunity in a fresh distant planet... (why worry and come in different times and leave their invitation) And maybe yes one of ther factions engineered us and then invited us but then that faction disappeared and the rest decided to cancel the experiment? Was the event that killed allmost all of the engineers in LV_223 an accident or was intentional? maybe someone didn't thought we deserve death...
Thanks to god we have so many interrogants... this is fun.
(or thanks to the engineers? mwa ja ja ja)
