We have talked about green slime & black goo quite a few times. I am wondering if the green slime David finds on the control panel for the ampule room door is the same as the green slime in the vase he takes from the ampule room? If it is, then why is it on the door controls outside of the ampule room?

I saw your topic title and got all excited because the first thing I thought of was the 1969 Toho movie Green Slime, which I loved as a kid! I am a dork. Anyway, the way that stuff glowed between his fingers made me think energy source. Wasn't it on or near some glyphs? Perhaps that's how he sorted out the functionality of the glyphs to get the door open. Maybe its some form of liquid logic board, or a leaky battery? It could be left over saliva from a long ago Morb, but it seemed too complex and powerful for that, unless of course the Morbs they dealt with were far more intense than the ones we've seen. I'd like to think they were.

Thats all it is its a technological type of electronic goo with nanoparticles acting as a conductor of sorts. Its decayed technology it has absolutely nothing to do with the black goo. When David got a close up of it it glowed and zapped so its an electronic substance.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

I first went to see Prometheus at the cinema, and without the backdrop of all the in depth analysis of each scene. I mention this because watching Prometheus for the first time meant viewing it without any other agenda’s in mind. I would also point out that I have already seen all the Alien movies. Upon my first viewing of Prometheus, my initial reaction to David finding the green slime, was ‘Is there a Morb about ?’ I was left with a feeling all the way through the film that there was something lurking in the corridors unseen. There is something at the back of my mind that says the green slime came from something big and nasty, and I don’t think there is anything in the movie that ties it up completely 100%. Not imo anyway.

I also thought it was something to do with the Morb that would be lurking about, but there was none. Then I saw David open the vase from the Ampule Room & when he removed its contents, there was green slime all over the crystal/spikey vials that were inside the vase. I do not know what Sir Ridley wanted me to think about that? I guess there is no connection, then?

I think it served to add an unknown to the storymix. It does play on your imagination when the discovery is in the back of our minds as we watch the rest of the movie trying to piece all the parts and clues together. Thats my take on it because the writers never explained what it was in the entire rest of the movie.

It would appear to be the great mystery of the phantom goo flinger. An unpopular theory may be that the engineers were chasing each other like school kids, up and down the corridors having a big old goo fight that got out of hand. With such puerile behavior running amok, tragedy strikes and no ones around to own up to it. You won’t catch any morb indulging in such infantile behavior, which is why there is not one to be seen. After all goo sticks. A strongly worded letter to the engineers home world may be in order. I don’t think they’ll be too pleased to find a human knocking at the door demanding an explanation.

My dear Batchpool- Of all the disturbing elements of Prometheus, could it be that the most unsettling of all is that the hologram depicted the Engineers getting up to a bit of mischief? Perhaps that was their undoing, yet another parallel with human foibles. It's always fun until someone is decapitated by a huge alien door.

@ Major Noob I salute you Sir. For once someone has finnally got around my sense of humour, or should that be chaos. That one component that none of us can anticipate. The thing that makes us human. The unpredictable and unexpected, yet some what logical. All respect to you. 'It's always fun until someone is decapitated by a huge alien door.' Yes yes yes. Bang on. Brilliant.

Batchpool- no, no, no, the pleasure is all mine. I've enjoyed your input from day one. And when all is said and done, isn't Prometheus about the universality our mistakes? Your levity is a valid angle. The Engineers are a bunch of clumsy jokers! God forbid we admit we're the same.

Unless Batchpool is correct, I always thought that it was engineer's blood and when David looked at it there were particles and stuff because the engineer's technology works to where the recorder images and audio is...I can't explain it. Just blood on a futuristic play back recorder type of thing. A kind of dumb way of saying but I don't know how else.

Lindelof, 'cos he's good with inventing ambiguity, goes, "Hey, guys, why don't we have some 'green goo' that scintillates with nanobots all over the control system for that door?" You know, even though, they've reduced the SIZE of those basketball players since the blueprints of the derelict were fabricated and they can no longer 'dunk the hoop'? ENGINEERS CAN'T OPEN THEIR OWN DOOR, manually??? "Hey, and why don't we call the ship Prometheus," yeah, how about some STORY?

Seems the green goo is simply electricity and a conductor in one. David found some leaking out of the wall. David is impressed by this, and probably realizes at that moment "Hey, there's still electricity in the place", so he tries out the security system.

The green stone may be a battery ... and one that died and no longer keeps the atmosphere safe in the temple room.

I like the fact that there is no definitive explanation for it.

It did strike me as possibly being leaky electro-nano battery gunk as the facility was so old...or so we were led to believe. ;)

...and yes CB it was similar to the protective slime that the four organic vials are embedded in. They also come attached to a nifty integral bony-organic 'handle'. More evidence of an alien-type mother-nature's functional design?

I'm confused - hopefully only until May - by the urn and its contents. I used to think it simply contained the mutagen protected until needed by the bottles and slime.

Now I'm wondering if the mutagen is one part, but maybe the slime is melted down previous deacons? I keep thinking about the sacrificial pose of the one on the door and wonder if the Engineers made soup from them. That way - as you dissolve the poor humans - you also turn them into monsters that will kill and eat the rest.
