AdminPraetorianMar-04-2013 10:39 PMI wanted to post this because I saw how many people still think the Xeno in Alien 3 is CGI. It's not, they used Puppets. Only one scene was done with CGI and that is a crack on the Xeno's head dome when it gets killed at the end.
Here is a fantastic documentary on the making of Alien3 that explains how they did the special effects in Alien 3. Enjoy!! :D

MemberChestbursterMar-04-2013 11:29 PMYeah i watched this on the special features. i heard this was pretty revolutionary and what not. i thought it looked really bad personally, but it was new and this movie was a little hard to film with just a guy in a suit for what they wanted to do

MemberOvomorphMar-05-2013 3:26 PMOh that's right. I forgot that too! But regarding the puppet technique, it still didn't work and that is the main point. As I now remember the only CGI shot was the cracking surface of the xeno when exposed to the cooling effect of water on the super heated exoskeleton.

MemberOvomorphMar-07-2013 6:03 PMEven if the alien was not CGI the problem was that the alien was not as impressive as the other 2 alien films that's my only problem with alien 3.
But I enjoyed the film and its still a good sequel if the film made the alien better looking like the other two it would be my favourite of the series but to be fair the film suffered a horrible pre-production anyway.
