Why does David say this? It's such a kooky statement. He's more than smart enough to know that hardly anybody wants their parents dead, but he says it anyway. Therefore, he must know that it will either upset or confound Shaw. Bad robot? Amoral robot? Glitchy robot? Sly robot? Whatever he is, I imagine that he is a very disturbed creation.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

Still it is curious as to when he speaks of this. Weyland is finally going to meet his the Engineers.. who he may feel are his Parents..Meet his makers so to speak. Maybe his reading of Shaw's dreams..David somehow picked up that Shaw was responsible for her biological parents' death..and could forsee her being responsible for the Last Engineers' demise. This really seems farfetched..

@Svanya - I completely agree with your gut feeling about David8! A Sociopath is what David8 should be likened to! No remorse for any action!

I absolutely agree with that statement as well. David is the latest in a long line of fictional sociopaths, and among the greatest. He is easily the equal of any Bond villain for sheer charisma and moral deficit, in fact I've said it before he is borderline Hannibal Lecter ( from the films AND books)  I wrote that he behaves with the same jolly indifference that allows an hydraulic press to crush its operator, and that sums it up for me. The thorough realization of his character alone elevates Prometheus above the majority of science fiction film over the last 30 years.

".. I wrote that he behaves with the same jolly indifference that allows an hydraulic press to crush its operator, .." In thinking of all of the deaths portrayed in the film..David does not show the sightest concern...or even reaction to their passing. The slight exception was when Weyland utters his final words,,,with David sort of responds. 'I Know'... Even for a robot that seems cold,,,
