Just thinking of what Ash says to Ripley when he's has his head knocked off They know about he xeno clearly - but seemingly in the latter form we see in Alien compared to the Deacon in Prometheus Surely this will have to be covered in one of the next installments?

Nobody likes my idea for this but: I think it's possible that mixed in with their warning signal was a detailed description of what it was they were warning about. But with this movie a whole can of worms is opened up as to the events leading up to Alien.

But Ash was aboard that ship with his directive already - warning beacon or not Unless it was fed in by Ash?

Well its not known really what it could be. Prometheus and indeed the extra bits they gave us on the Blue-Ray to give us more Questions... um i mean Answers lol Well they kind of do now open up a can of worms. You see David was aware of the Beacon on LV 426 and if the Beacon was a actual verbal warning in the Engineers Language then surely David 8 would know how to translate it. So how much they know by Alien depends on 3 things... 1) How much information about the Organism is given in the Beacon that the company managed to decipher. 2) How much information David may have gained and passed on to the company from the events of Prometheus until Alien. 3) Wither the company sends another mission to investigate LV 223 after the events of Prometheus and prior to Alien.

The LV-426 Beacon didn't sound anything at all like an Engineer (played to the crew in the Director's cut). It sounded more like some kind of insect noise to me. How Mother managed to figure out it contained a warning is a mystery to me. That's one little plot hole I'd love to be filled from Alien. We do see some rather crude binary information scrolling on a screen, but that doesn't really help too much. Well, it was 1979 after all. The possibility does exist that the beacon sound was actually a recording of the Xeno infestation itself (something we haven't seen yet). A nice little warning, that would be. LV-426 is not necessarily the only place where such a thing has happened, and similar broadcasts may have been made across the cosmos. In which case, the Weyland Corporation / Mother may know all too well what the significance of the sound means, ahead of any landing by the Nostromo.

Yes the deleted scene showing the transmission did sound very alien and almost robotic rather than any kind of Alien Language. It did seem to have a repetition of sounds that could be broken down into different words. Thus it could broke down into something like this.... "warning, warning, the cargo is compromised, warning, warning" I say that because the transmission has a series of different sounds and the first two sounds are the same as the last two and these may surely be Warning, or Alert or similar. The parts in the middle well thats up to interpretation but as Ridley said the warning was about the cargo to be transmitted to other Engineers/Space Jockeys then something similar to what i thought it could be must have been what the Warning beacon was like. But as that scene was a deleted one, their is nothing stopping them ignoring how that transmission sounded or even release a new version of Alien where they add Engineer dialog over those Alien tones. Just as with Prometheus 2/Paradise i am sure that Ridley would put more back bone and detail into the Dialog the Engineers use...

In the released alien version Ripley said mother only deciphered some of it and it looks like a warnong. So there could have been more info in the message. Also yes ash's final words were haunting and in a creepy way poetic but let's not forget this is ash after a severe malfunction and being beat in the head severely and decapitAted! He may well be quite wrong about this being a perfect organism!

@BigDave: The playing of the warning beacon is not a deleted scene in the Director's Cut. That one's out of the bag, so to speak.

Yeah, that right silly me.. I guess what i meant was it was not in the theatrical release. Again though i think Fox could release a new version of Alien once Prometheus Trilogy has been completed and indeed add a more Engineer tone to the signal.
