So, i take it for granted that we are all Sci Fi fans here? We might have different opinions regardig whats a good Sci Fi. But under Sci Fi, we unite nonetheless. I often find my grains of gold in the more low budget ones, where the use of Special effects are at a minimum, and a good idea or story is in focus. Sci Fi should be about ideas, primarily. I want to mention two movies i saw recently, Eden Log and Cargo. They are about five or six years old, i am not really sure. Two nights ago i stumbled upon Cargo, a low budget film sure, but completely mesmerizing. Even if the CGI bits of the movie isnt world class, so to speak, the sets and the props are amazing(Take a look at the Cryo sleep chambers if you get a chance). Maby the story isnt something completely original, but its still really good. The other one, Eden Log. I got an email from my friend where he receomended me this movie. I watched last night and it left me speechless afterwards. Maby was it becuase of my insomnia, the time was about 04:30. Or was it becuase i was alone in my bed in the dark? Or was it becuase of a truely good and original story? I think so. If you like your Sci Fi dark and dirty, this is your movie. It has mysteries, monsters, caves and an evil, all seeing council in it so buckle your seatbelt. Everybody is on the look out for new experiences. Maby write a little story of how you found your movie, or why you think its so great. Best regards/ Korpen *link fix by Feebs*

Thanks for starting this thread.I'm always on the look out for "out of the way" Sci-Fi & Horror films. Some of them are really good. I've seen Cargo and agree that it was a good movie.I'm gonna look up Eden Log. "Attack the Block" wasn't too bad a movie. If you can get past the low budget CG creatures its actually a really good character based sci-fi horror film. "Let the Right One In" is a Swedish independent Vampire film that I guarantee will impress and astonish most viewers(especially Vampire enthusiasts). Its a really good story set in the early 80's in socialist Sweden.A twelve year old boy whose an outcast at school and parents are divorced coincidentally befriends a twelve year old girl whose actually a vampire and over 200 years old. Apart from a really good story, some Vampire lore, like why vampires need to be invited in,are explored. This movie came out in 2008 and was remade in 2010 into a turdball called "Let me In" with Chloe Moretz. If you get a chance, check out the original Swedish film. Its 10 times the movie. I'm gonna finish with a few personal photos of one of the filming miniatures from Ed Woods "Plan 9 from Outer Space".It was on display at the EMP in Seattle as part of a Sci-Fi & Horror film exhibition.I took these pics a few weeks ago. Thank you for answering Djrees56@. It warms my heart that your special movie is let the right one in. Its a good story, and the visuals are great. I grew up in sweden during the eighties and watching let the right one in is like a nostalgia trip for me. The clothes, the music and also the parents, its spot on. The american one was not very good i agree. I never really saw the point of doing remakes of for example japanese movies or in this case, a swedish one. Let the right one in is actually based on a novel by swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist. I dont know wich country your in but if you can get a hold of his books in your language read them all. There is one that is called "how to handle the undead" i think you would like. Its set mostly in stockholm. Its summer and all of a sudden it starts raining maggots, and the dead starts to awakend. not saying more, Thank you for appreciating this tread, its nice to come away from discussions about the size of the spacejocke vs the engineers for a while. Cheers.

Thanks Korpen.I really appreciate your thread cause like I said I'm always on the look out for films that are off the beaten path.I'm still on shift but I'll look up Eden Log once I'm on my days off. Its also nice to hear that your a LTROI fan aswell. The film came across as having a realistic story but having you confirm that it reminded you of how you used to live there in that time.It tells me how much effort they really put into making that film. I actually own a costume from LTROI.Its the costume Lina Leandersson(Eli) wore in the clubhouse along with the winter hat she wore. Here's a few pics of it. Hi. First let me say i hate all the star wars movies. My friend and I saw the original and we both hated it and couldn't believe how everyone was falling over themselves praising it. Am I a freak? YES? One movie I saw on tv "the demon seed" is great. It's from the 70s. In short this computer gains control to the point of raping the wife of his creator to produce his own offspring. It rocked! I wish someone would remake it.
