ahahahah. Alien Snot... and perhaps poo as well.

That was the general consensus.............................................................................. But no one really knows what the resin was/is, it's assumed it's the drool they constantly................... Drool...... :-D

The resin is formed by worker aliens, who secrete it from eight resin-producing mirror glands on the inner sides of the sternites (the ventral shield or plate of each segment of the body) on abdominal segments 4 to 7. Oh no... wait a minute... that's what bees do when they make a nest. But you get the idea.

I believe it's supposed to be the drool. As that's what Giger himself said the creature from Alien did when it made it's nest and cocooned Dallas & Brett.

Their secreted resign is also nano goo...Brett was being turning into an egg in the cocoon scene. Unlike ALiens, where they are bugs, the Xeno in alien is biomechanical invention..It's alien-ness is rooted in the minds of it's designers and perhaps a little DNA too. Not only are they alien but whose flesh is permanently bonded with the cybernetic machine. Sort of like the Borg but on a deeper...nastier scale.

The way I have always envisioned it is... [i]The Hive is composed of secreted resin (not drool but phlegm or mucus regurgitated from their throats) which would be the same stuff they use to cocoon hosts, drool, excrement (yes poop) and the discarded remains of spent hosts (the bits they didn't eat).[/i] So IMO the resin is phlegm.

I watched hte extended version of alien the other day, they had some ofthr deleted scenes in it. In one of the scenes, they showed brent "coccoon up" he had something flowig from his mouth, it looked sort of foamy. I thought it was very strange that he was coccoon especialy since he was killed by the alien. Maybe the alien injected him or something like wise to cause this (the foam). maybe this is the source of the secreted resin prehaps? just throwing my 2 cent in. if you havent seen the scene im talking ,about its on youtube
