I don't know if anyone brought this up before now. If you can find a copy of H.R. Giger's Necronomicon (I got it from the library), on page 67 and 69 you'll see something familiar. It's Giger's design for Harkonnen Castle from the failed version of Dune from 1975 or so. It looks almost exactly like the dome structures they find in Prometheus - elongated death head on top and all. They used/reused the design for Prometheus. Also, the Xenomorph can be seen on pg. 65 and bits and pieces of the Xenomorph and the Space Jockey/Engineer biosuit in different spots in the book. I hope we see more of what's in the Necronomicon in Paradise, the Prometheus sequel. There are disturbing images in the book, but I'm sure I don't need to give this group the warning that the Necronomicon is not for the faint of heart.

You sir have found one of the lost paintings that were resurrected in Prometheus. The Temple skull, the shape of the Engineer's facilities are very similar... Please buy the Prometheus Art Book, it's beautiful and is filled with many of H.R. Giger's fantastic works. Check Amazon... very inexpensive and very nice... I think it is the best Alien art book there is. Thanks for the post.

Whats more interesting is the description of the Harkonnen Purpose... It changes Life both material and soul into matter to be used as Fuel. Maybe thats what the Urns are for, they are not weapons but Batteries?

I was very excited when I recognized the Harkonnen Castle of Giger/Jodorowski's aborted Dune. Well, a key concept of the Dune saga is genetic memory. It has inspired Jeunet in Alien Resurection to explain why Ripley-Alien's persona came back from the dead. I think Aliens Comics were also inspired by the concept of geriatric spice, giving the alien queen's secretions similar virtues. There's nothing that makes sense in Prometheus, it's a very oniric experience. Still, I thought of the Urns as a way the Engineers found to use their memories and genes (Life both material and soul), to maintain them forever. It makes of Alien a genekeeper (as opposed to genestealer) and a strange new way to procreate and live forever with death as side-effects. I think it fits with the original sexual design of Giger's monster and some of the scenes (the intro, the ceasarean). Creativity, the art of recycling...

I have the same thougth, i think that the so calle "Engineers" are Harkonnen, and maybe exist the posibility of reboot Alien and take the other path, the path of the origins, and this origins i think that lays on Dune. I hope they do this crossover...

Hollywood may be inspired by Dune, but they won't dare a crossover. These are holy books furiously studied by a horde of devoted fanboys. I strongly believe that Dune is not a story fitted for a movie. Herbert's style is based on the introspection, and Lynch's attempt is a denied failure. I didn't get enough courage to fully watch the six hours lenght more recent adaptation, but I'm reading the books again. Even if it's science fiction, it has a lot of meaning and is very deep. I was too young by the time I first read it and am understanding more details of the saga, with the vague impression to be still not old nor focused enough to fully comprehend Herbert's genius and cryptic wisdom. But I join you in this, Viszla Monkorvo : the Alien saga already borrowed strong ideas from the Dune saga, and these ideas could give another reading of Prometheus. The Urns could be like some kind of twisted Axlotl tanks for the Engineers, corrupted or activated by the human incursion. In this case, I hope they'll add Meshuggah's In Death - is Life / In Death - is Death to the soundtrack of Paradise. Dune again. Every time I watch a movie about soulless artificial intelligences and androïds going pubert and messing with poor human parents, I can't help but think about Butlerian Jihad and wonder why any programmer didn't found the time to code three little Asimov's laws. :D
