MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 6:01 AMHello folks
here are a few behind the scenes shots of the Sacrificial Engineer, one also featuring an Elder Engineer in scenes cut from the theatrical release of Prometheus.
Some additional pictures of the make-up/prosthetics laying process for the Sacrificial Engineer, too.

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 7:24 AMInteresting. Is it possible that the big stone head is a monument to the sacrificial engineer?

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 7:30 AMit seems the scene was written with an 'elder' supervising/assisting/directing the ceremony.
Look at the 'Prometheus Art" images in the galleries. There are several shots of pre-production screenplays showing early visions of this scene, and you can see an Elder engineer here too, actually handing the cup (bowl) to the younger sacrificial engineer.
Food for thoughts...

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 7:58 PMHere is what we do know about Engineers:
-- They can die
-- they can get old
-- They are not perfect
-- killing another species is not a problem if provoked

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 10:11 PMits obvious that the engineer sacrifice himself by falling into underwater n then got his own DNA strand modified into another.
questions:
why would a god tried to sacrifice their own to populate a new found planet?
wouldnt it be easier if they just engineer the species with their technology?
if i were a god i wouldnt want my DNA to be self-modified and then multiply into numbers and get smart and fear that one day it might reach the advance-stage-of-inter-stellar-travel to come crash their crazy looking spaceship into mine!??!!?

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 10:35 PMAfter watching Prometheus, to me, humankind is just one step in the process of experimentation to develop an ultra hi-tech bio weapon. The Engineers needed to find out what would result from mixing the fluid with their own DNA, so they needed an isolated, virgin planet as a test territory and a sacrificial member of their race to have a new species as a result. Perhaps they decided to wipe out humankind once they reached their final bio-weapon objective. Perhaps destructive human nature is the result of that purpose, but we didn´t really result in an aggressive life-form. Once they made it, they just needed to clean all of the steps in their process.

MemberDeaconJun-16-2012 5:25 AMWell prior to the release of Prometheus the actor who played the Sacrefice Engineer did say in a interview that he was in the start of the movie at the opening scene.
He went on to say he had to drink a liquid that disolved him so that life could be created from his body.... that was pretty spoilerish at the time.
In same interview he said he was mainly a Model but he had done some acting parts which helped as he had to do some Dialog in a Alien Language.
Now we never saw the Engineer do that and we never saw one talk in the movie.
But with the Art of Prometheus book there showed 2 elder Engineers with the Sacreficial one...
In the behind scenes videos prior to Prometheus when cast members was talking about the movie i am sure one back ground scene showed 2 hooded figures....
And now with the release of the image showing a Elder Engineer it would apear that this scene was done but never made it to the movie, and it would apear this scene is wihere the actor had some Alien Dialog...
Ages ago like around the time of the teaser trailer some sources had two other actors listed as Elders, these was removed from the main cast credits.
So we can only assume that indeed before the ritual sacrefice the Engineer is given orders or has some conversation with his Elders.
Hopefully this scene will be added to the extended edition of the movie when one gets released.

They are not quite imortal.....
Just like a Vampire they are imortal but can be killed....
I mean if Engineers cant be killed how is the dead boddies explained.
We also see the Elders who look more frail and old, so maybe there race just age at a very very slow pace....
Maybe like few hundred (or thousand) times slower than us so a 50'000 year old Engineer may apear as a very old man, a 25'000 year old one like a midle aged man etc...

MemberOvomorphJun-16-2012 10:11 AMThe art of the film book states that the Engineers were nflueneced by Michelangelo's David, Elvis and the Statue of Liberty.

MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 11:20 AMAlso, for those discussing matters such as engineers being immortal or not etc.. I opened this **thread here** to sum up what material and inferences we currently have/can make about their biology.
Please, participate with comments to append info to the thread.

They obviously had one big serious problem with a "Deacon".

MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 11:27 AMI wonder if there was any type of dialogue going on at any point here.

MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 4:40 PMnice. I wonder what will pop up in the future..
IF they only had shot it more in the style of the art book ( art of Prometheus) this would have been great.
I really wonder why the heck Scott didnt manage it to just hold the quality of the trailers up to the movie, these were perfect.

It would be VERY NATURAL for there to be spoken dialogue between at least some of these Engineers in this scene.

MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 11:57 PM@ iapetus, I meant that I was wondering if there would be any talking going on between the Elder Engineer and the Sacrificial Engineer.
@Sukkal, yes it does look like it would be very natural to have some dialogue going on between the two of them which is why I was asking if anybody had any information confirming this, which it looks like BigDave had in his previous post in this thread. I'd love to see this scene even if it's just in the deleted scenes section and not edited back in with the extra 20 minutes. There's a thread in the news section about the sequel possibly reworking the Elders whom might play a larger role in the second film which is why they may have been left out of the final edit. I just want to see them speaking and what they're voices sound like.
