MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 5:29 PM"Alien" didn't need to explain any of that crap, it wasn't what the film was about. "Prom" on the other hand definitely had flaws.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 6:58 PMNot by me. Could you please go into some further explanation to the flaw? I mean I know that RS fought to keep the SJ in the film, for pure mystery. Is that what you are getting at?

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 7:03 PMI think he wanted to say that Alien did explain basically nothing ( the SJ race , how the derelict crashed , who did place the eggs , what is the xeno , what weyland know , why ash help sometimes and others not , etc etc tons of questions ) but people dont complain ...while people are getting mad about missing explainations of Prometheus and consider this a flaw

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 7:36 PMWhat im trying to say is, and sorry for my english, is how many people are pointing the flaws on Prometheus, and haven´t yet realize that that kind of flaws , is what it makes to keep all this universe of the alien franchince going for the past 30 years.
Some of the "flaws" on Prometheus, were in fact the same "flaws" on Alien..... and yet, we love Alien

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 8:09 PMAccording to Dan O'Bannon, the "Derelict" in the movie "is a wrecked construction of non-human manufacture", and not necessarily a spacecraft. In the original script the men find a crashed derelict spacecraft.
O' Bannon: In the movie, the Earth men discover a wrecked, derelict spacecraft. Actually no, that's not correct. In the movie, the men discover a wrecked construction of non-human manufacture and inside of it they find eggs of the monster. In the original script the men find a crashed derelict spacecraft and they enter it; they discover that the alien crew are all dead. They return to their own ship to contemplate what may have killed the alien crew and then they discover a pyramid on the planet which appears to be indigenous and primitive. They enter the pyramid and there they find the eggs. They combined these two elements, they squeezes them together into one sort of uneasy entity.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 11:02 PMBe interesting to see a remake/reboot of ALIEN, where they keep Dan O'Bannon's original idea...

Prometheus is full of Dan's early and unused ideas...

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 8:03 PM Giger;s Vision was the theme (TRULY ALIEN) The master of horror! and Reality! (HR Giger) shows us that - out of death comes life - no matter how horrific it is . Thats why the SJ was the ship and the ship was the SJ. There was never a hologram to see in the Big room because it was all in the SJ's Head - a Massive Brain - for a massive control - The Ship was a Living thing connected to the SJ and he could feel All of it. (The Alien Came from HIS thoughts).

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:46 AMTheres absolutely no way anyone could consider the lack of an explaination in the Alien film on the Space Jockey or how the eggs got there to be a flaw...
In fact they kind of did explain it you just had to be smart enough to figure it out....
1. They locate a distress beacon that took them off their shipping route (not by accident we later learn)
2. They locate a crashed ship (none of the crew know nothing about this ship)
3. The find the space jockey in a chair and note that it looks like the ribs where broken from the inside out. (which explains why the ship possibly crashed and why the beacon)
4. For the purpose of the film Alien how they got there or why isnt important.
5. They check out the bottom portion and get interduced to an egg.
That Ship leaves a little mystery as to why its there we later learn they company knew of it and redicted them (thru ash) to retrieve the sample.
But after the alien is on board the only thing that mattered was survival.
And leaving the ship alone sets up the Aliens movie. which again just visits the ship and the marines are sent in to rescue the colony (the company isnt giving up that derelict space craft) and it should still be resting on LV-426 as it was a great distance away from hadleys hope.
but overall why the ship is there is it crashed or they tried to crash land somewhere that there was no indiginous life for the aliens to infect. and set up a warning beacon. Space Jockey was simply the pilot and adds to the mystery of the alien universe. leaving something for the fans to use their imagination on lol... but most definately not a flaw.
