MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 11:21 AMAt the end of Mission to Mars, one astronaut takes an alien ship to the alien homeworld to find out why they seeded life on earth and what happened to them. At the end of Prometheus one space scientist takes an alien ship to their homeworld to find out why they seeded life on Earth and why they want to destroy us. Both films have a large alien structure that is explored by humans and both have a creature guarding the structure. Both films also hint at a great cataclysm that befell the alien civilization. I will say that Mission to Mars does a better job because it actually shows the steps that went into the evolutionary process and explains what happened a bit better. Furthermore, to get into the Alien structure in Mission to Mars the astronauts have to play a musical set of notes that correspond to our DNA and in Prometheus they have to play a flute to start the alien controls. Any thoughts from people who have seen both films?

That you favor Mission to Mars over Prometheus, that's what I gathered.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 11:34 AMYou might just be a troll. In my opinion Mission to Mars was a total complete piece of excrement, not sure why you are comparing the two unless you are aiming to bash Prometheus?

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 11:43 AM@ Freeze Him! Mission to Mars aims to explore the same concepts as Prometheus and also has some great visuals and leaves many questions unanswered. I don't think Mission to Mars is a piece of excrement although it does suffer from many problems. From many of the user reviews I have gathered, it seems that Promotheus also suffers from many of the same problems such as having flat characters, not giving enough time for the plot to evolve naturally, having certain characters there just to die, and not providing answers to most of the important plot elements. If being open to the fact that Promotheus is just another movie and Ridley Scott is just another director makes me a troll then I guess I am a troll. I judge each film only on the merits of that one film and do not make excuses such as "we got no answers and it was rushed but there will be sequels". Furthermore, saying that Mission to Mars is excrement does not actually add anything to the discussion. You can disagree that the story elements are not similar or you can agree that they are. Ad hominem attacks lead us down the path to nowhere.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 11:53 AM@Freeze Him! Enjoy being a mindless fanboy who immediately attacks people who don't bow down and worship everything you like as if it were the sacred golden calf. Many users who I actually respect saw the movie and are in agreement with me. It seems like the only people screaming about how amazing Prometheus is are those that have not seen it yet.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 12:05 PM@ Freeze Him! What you call being negative I call being on the side of level-headed people who judge the product and don't worship the person who made it. There are more and more people on the boards every day who saw the movie and are willing to discuss the plot and actually have a conversation about it. There are tons of threads where people who have not seen the film are still gushing about how amazing and spectacular its going to be. Just because I am not one of those people who mindlessly worships a film regardless of how good or bad it is, does not mean that I am a troll. As more and more people see the film, you will find that my view is going to become the norm. Not because of some mass conspiracy but because Scott put out a product that was significantly inferior in almost all respects to what was promised and what he is capable of producing.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 3:47 PMHello Drakeequation! Have you seen Prometheus yet? I want to know your opinin on the movie? Can you clarify your personal take of the movie for me if possible? The way you express yourself towards Prometheus, makes it seem that you saw the movie already.

MemberOvomorphAug-31-2021 5:32 AMI don't know why anyone of you debates over these two movies when it's clear as a sun... Ridley Scott copy a lot of things from MTTM to his Prometheus!
