MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 8:18 AMThe fact that most on this forum hate the new born and the clones in Alien Res........yet your all about to go see a movie about DNA fiddling and cloning and stuff
Make your bloody minds up lol.
To me at least we are not going to see the Space Jockeys as they really should have been.....like in Alien. Without the stupid suit and blue man idea.....i wanted to know where they came from and where they were going and how that cargo got there. Simple.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:02 AMoh, well the SJs engineer different lifeforms for different worlds. The one in Alien was transpotting one of such forms to their new home, but got bored and decided to check out what was in the egg....ooops

MemberDeaconMay-21-2012 9:14 AMThe only problem i had with Alien Resurection was Ripley...
Ok yes we could clone her from DNA, but i cant see how say finding the blood of or tissue of say a Pregnant Women means your going to get a clone that is pregnant...
If Promethues 2 they cloned Fifield from DNA optained before his mutation the clone would not have shaven hair Mohawk or Tattoos...
You would get this instead...

As far as Baby Huey i would buy that, if she was Pregnant some how and Alien DNA managed to get into the Embryo... so if she was Pregnant by a Human and then got Face Hugged, but they removed the Chest Burster then yes i would beleave that her child when born could be a Hybrid...

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:37 AMExactly, BigDave. That movie tried way too hard to be "scientific", and what we ended up with was lazy, stupid, Hollywood science that only alienated (no pun intended) the more discerning fans of the series.
They would have been better off just not trying so damn hard, and leaving things unexplained. Which they basically had to unintentionally do anyway, since their plot was so full of gaping holes. Keep it simple, stupid.
And the Newborn was just dumb. Why would the soulless, remorseless xenomorphs want to create a half-human, half-alien hybrid so badly to go through all the trouble of creating an imitation womb? And then the part where the queen acts as though she loves her baby...like really, did these guys ever even WATCH any of the other movies?
The whole tone and theme of A:R was just so way off. Too much silly humor, silly action, and silly science. It felt like a bad knockoff of Jurassic Park, set in space, with the raptors replaced by xenomorphs. Not to mention that the abominations of cinema that followed after absolutely took a big cue from Resurrection, as opposed to any of the earlier films.
Excuse my language, but that film can suck my nuts. Those guys weren't even trying. Ridley Scott knows when not to beat the shit out of a dead horse, he's making what is essentially an entirely different film with a very different story, much grander in scope and scale than any of the films focused exclusively around the xenomorph. That's why its okay for him to include very different things than what we have seen before; it's almost like he's starting from scratch.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:40 AM I don't get your objection. Alien: Resurrection was hokey, not because they used cloning (we humans have been doing it for 15 years! Or more if you count taking cuttings from plants, and the plants have been cloning themselves for millions more years than that!), but because they even bothered. What I don't get is how everyone acts like the LV 426 derelict was destroyed. Surely, if it took approx. 1 week for the Jordens to get there from Hadley's Hope, it must be situated far beyond the 30km blast radius? That ship, and it's cargo, were still there. Even if not, they could have just cloned spore cells from the Fiorina alien. And here's the worst plot hole: They waited for TWO-HUNDRED YEARS to do something that could have been started on the Patna as it returned from Fiorina 161, they had the bloody technology! Are people in the 23rd/24th/25th Centuries really that slow?! I had no real problem with the Newborn, though I would have wanted to see what it would have grown into.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:59 AMSince when did the xenomorphs have a choice in the creation of the newborn? They were corrupted with an excess of human DNA! Everything that was wrong with them was due to the balls-ups by the project scientists - they hadn't a clue what they were dealing with. Other than that, I agree with you. It was the biggest waste of time in movie history.
I disagree about the SJ, though. The original was part of the chair, and had a bloody great airhose in its face, how can it be anything other than a biomechanical spacesuit? I did have my doubts about the blue giant, but now I've seen more, now I know where RS is coming from, I don't have a problem!

MemberDeaconMay-21-2012 10:54 AMI could even but that they cloned Ripley while she was carrying a Embryo and some how some of the Alien DNA was fused with hers.
so i am not so bothered about how she had Alien DNA
My problem was i dont by being able to clone her from DNA to create her exactly as she was when she died....
If i died from getting my Penis caught in a machine and it got cut off and then i also cut my hand off trying to rescue it....
if some one cloned my blood or DNA, i dont expect them to end up with a man with no penis or a hand lol.

I liked the hokey stuff in Resurrection.
Yes the "cloning" procedure to get Ripley back from the dead was bogus. But, the alien embryo extraction surgery scene was pretty cool. For me anyway.
I believe the newborn was conceived to add some complexity to the way we feel about the xenos. I'm not sure it worked, but that's how I took it. Its death was also Ridley's original vision for how the xeno in Alien would die. They just couldn't pull it off visually in 1979.
BigDave, keep your privates out of machines, OK ;•)

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 6:05 PMEveryone take a breath. Ok, when the alien facehugger does the mambo on human face (plants a embryo into the human) there could have been DNA corruption (Ripley's original DNA mixed with the Alien DNA = Hybrid Alien cocktail).

AdminPraetorianMay-21-2012 6:06 PMThat movie was fun, I really enjoyed it. Joss Whedon wrote it and it was meant to be a farce. XD

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 6:18 PMI enjoyed Alien 4, yes it was not Alien or even close... but it was something to fill the void in our hearts.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 7:38 PMI agree I liked Alien Resurrection, I don't count it as actual "cannon" or close to Alien but it was still a good movie. Acting wasn't the best but it was IMO still better then killing off your main character even if it was to kill the Xenomorph, and ending the series like that.
