in the trailer were the land rovers are heading back to the ship
notice how there is a well defined road leading back ??
or is this how the space craft lands and leaves one in its path

@ncc1701, yopu need to copy the url ofr your pic and paste it in the pop up box that appears when you click the white/green box that is the fourth icon from the left at the top of each reply window.....otherwise....we can't see your picture and can't discuss it.

The ship appears to have rotating engines. The earlier scene of the ship initiating orbit above the planet(if this is the same craft) has the engines in forward thrust position. Looking at this shot it the engines appear to have rotated and landed from a vertical position. Then again it dosen't explain why they would land the craft so far away from their destination and need the ATV in the first place.
The suspense is killing me.....hurry up June.

the topic of course was already discussed ... the road is leading to the temple and it seems artificially made by the crew ( some sort of bulldozers maybe )

The ship that is seen in space is the same one that is seen on the ground, it's engines can rotate through ninety degrees and the spar that connects them tilts to allow vertical or horizontal flight. The road that leads from the ship to the rock formation is exactly the same width as the garage pod that is lowered from the ship. It seems very likely that the road was created by the crew of the ship, how it was made and why it is so far from the rock formation remains a mystery.

well i think that when you descend onto an alien planet you cant be so picky to be closer to a target you dont even know what its .... a km away seems reasonable to me

we're on the metric system here in Montreal but Frantz's estimate is one I would "concurr" {big word for a guy like me} with. I'd say the equation would be,
Saftey= 1KM - target Alien species / 1 triangle.
or soemthing like that hahahahaha.

"Why we dont go a little closer ?? " ....we just sunk a passenger liner with that way of thinking :p

Hah, Frantz, yeah.
I suppose the ship's sensors might have picked up something that led the crew to land at a distance. Or, when landing in an alien environment, don't land your only means of escape too close to potential danger.

Hey guys! Let's build a road 5 times wider than we need and then follow each other in-line so we suffocate the guys in back!
Roger that.

That certainly does look odd in that still. There's room for them to drive side-by-side. I guess when you're potentially booking it from something sinister, you don't think too much about those things.

@ Frantz:
I never realized how much Alf looked like a hairy SJ until your GIF! (Maybe they came here and mated with bigfoots too).
